So our Cantab residency turned out to be a pretty sweet deal. Our college fans would graduate, move on, start careers, and many would get married. We started getting calls from Cantab friends we hadn’t seen in awhile, asking if we could bring our Cantab show to their wedding receptions.
Soon– to our amazement– we found that we had become a wedding band, a niche wedding band with a well-defined mission in response to our fans’ invitation: bring the classic soul revue to a great party. No interest in claiming “we can play anything.” Nothing square, cheesy or stale. Just a real-deal classic soul and funk revue, born from deep roots, brought to you fresh by true believers.
We’ve now played over 150 weddings in eight states, from New York City to Belfast, Maine, almost all from word of mouth raves and the loyalty of our fan base. We manage our weddings the way we manage our stage show, with seasoned attention to detail, quality, and timing, keeping it fun and keeping the dance floor full.
Check out our thank you notes page and you’ll find consistent gratitude for our:
–attentive and responsive leadership, from first contact to the clearing of the stage;
–proactive coordination with wedding planners, venue reps, and vendors;
–enjoyable planning with Jeremy Valadez, our veteran music director/wedding manager/emcee;
–worry-free reception day management;
–sensitive sound management (our sound engineer knows you’re the boss!);
–a charismatic performance that keeps all ages on the dance floor.

“We had such a blast with you guys. Thank you again for all your support! You made everything so easy. Of all the people we worked with, the Chicken Slacks were by far the best– responsive, flexible, easy-going. Thank you again! Can’t wait to check you out sometime in the future at the Cantab”…… Susannah and Eli, married July 25, 2015, in Lincoln, MA
Check out this cell phone footage taken from the dance floor. Lo-fi video and hi-fi fun. The last dance of the night for Christine and Daniel, married in May, 2015, at Camp Kiwanee, Hanson, MA.
Beautiful rustic setting on a lake.
